Wow no lights.
There are a lot of people who want to get rid of the safety inspection in Texas, claiming that if something (like the lights) is broken, drivers will just get a ticket anyway... but yeah, the chances of that happening are slim. I’d much rather every vehicle on the road be checked every year.

“Oh, that parts already been hit. I’ll aim for the part that hasn’t been.”
From the video this looks completely avoidable, but maybe it’s a higher speed than it seems from the video?

Looks like the Tesla was attempting to go behind the accord assuming they were going to keep moving, but they stopped. Oops. And looks like wet roads, so may not have been able to stop in time.... well I guess that’s obvious.... that they couldn’t stop in time.

I actually saw a story about this pop up on my phone this morning.

As it turned out, the driver of the white Honda Accord did not have insurance at all. Worse, the driver didn’t even have a license due to a suspension
I’m shocked that this would be the case...

I saw plenty of vehicles with no lights in TX even with the inspections. Not a reason to get rid of them, but it does make me suspect that enforcement is lax (those bulbs could be burning out between inspections, but I saw a lot of cars with expir ed registration)

Props for turning left into the correct lane, a lost art in my area.
Seems a little funny that the crash wasn’t avoidable at that angle and speed, but maybe the camera misrepresents details. And that bump totaled the car?

That’s a pretty hefty “bump”
plus Teslas are notoriously expensive to repair, a smaller accident could have totaled it as well

I guess the car really sacrifices itself to save the driver. Looked to be no more than 20-25mph or so. I wonder if it was on “autopilot” (sarcastic or ironic quotes).

If what you are saying is correct then f rom what I saw in the video the Tesla driver was lagging a second behind in response time. Because the car comes to a stop, pause, Tesla turns to t-bone. It feels like the response of a fairly new driver where they decided on a course of action as soon as the car could be seen, and then couldn’t make new decisions as the situation changed from expectations.
